Tinubu seeks Senate nod for N100.5bn Yobe Airport reimbursement

    Published on

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve N100.5 billion as reimbursement to Yobe State Government for the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu.

Tinubu made the request in a letter to the President of the Senate, seeking approval for establishment and issuance of a promissory note programme through the Debt Management Office (DMO).

The sum sought is N100,509,017,234.55 for the airport project constructed by the state government.

According to him, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its second extraordinary meeting on May 23, 2023, approved federal takeover of the airport and refund via promissory notes.

He said the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) had reviewed the project and recommended N100.5 billion for reimbursement.

“In the light of the foregoing, I urge the Senate to consider and approve the establishment and issuance by the Debt Management Office of a promissory note programme in the sum of N100,509,017,234.55,” the President stated.

He appealed to lawmakers to expedite action on the request.

The Senate has referred the request to the relevant committee for legislative consideration.

The promissory note programme, if approved, will serve as formal mechanism for the Federal Government to reimburse Yobe for the aviation project.
