    Tinubu reconstitutes NERC board, appoints Musiliu Oseni as chairman

    President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.

    The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

    According to the statement, President Tinubu appointed Dr. Musiliu Oseni as NERC Chairman, effective December 1, 2025, and to subsist until the completion of his 10-year tenure at the commission, in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

    Dr. Oseni began his service as a commissioner in January 2017 and was subsequently appointed Vice Chairman of the commission.

    Other members of the reconstituted board include Dr. Yusuf Ali as Vice Chairman. He was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022. His designation as Vice Chairman took effect on December 1, 2025, and will remain in effect until the completion of his first term.

    Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti is serving as commissioner. Shatti, who was first appointed in January 2017, is currently serving a second term as commissioner.

    Mr. Dafe Akpeneye is also serving as commissioner. Akpeneye is in his second term, having been first appointed in January 2017.

    Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello is serving as commissioner. She is in her second term, having been first appointed in December 2020.

    Dr. Chidi Ike is serving as commissioner. He is in his first term, having been first appointed in February 2022.

    Dr. Fouad Animashaun is serving as commissioner in his first term, effective December 2025.

    Animashaun is an energy economist with extensive experience in the Nigerian power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

    President Tinubu charged the board members to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
