On Monday, President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the renamed Minna International Airport, now known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna. The renaming was carried out by Governor Umar Bago of Niger State on Friday. The airport, initially inaugurated by former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida on June 20, 1990, will see new developments and projects unveiled during the ceremony.

The inauguration will also include the agro-processing zone and agricultural equipment projects. Approximately 2,000 hectares of land will be allocated for the agro-processing zone initiative, with 1,000 hectares dedicated to drip irrigation and greenhouses, and another 1,000 hectares designated for dairy product processing.

Governor Bago highlighted the significance of the agro-processing zone, emphasizing the potential to enhance the value chain and create employment opportunities. The project aims to streamline the transportation of cattle by providing a direct route for frozen meat from the airport to various destinations.

In addition, Governor Bago disclosed plans to construct approximately 140 kilometers of water irrigation channels connecting the airport to Shiroro Dam. This ambitious 50-year program is expected to be completed in phases over the next few years. The initiative also includes the introduction of 80 megawatts of power to the airport.

During his visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with two former Heads of State, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, further solidifying the significance of the projects in Minna. The developments underscore the commitment to infrastructure and agricultural advancements in the region.
