A suspect has been apprehended by the Bayelsa State Vigilante Security Service for the alleged burglary and theft of mobile phones valued at one million naira. The accused, identified as Promise Okpo, an 18-year-old from Okordia community in Yenagoa Local Government area, is believed to have broken into a shop at Akums Plaza in Kpansia around 11 a.m. last Sunday and stolen several brand new mobile phones of various brands. Hon. Doubiye Alagba, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, confirmed the incident and revealed that the suspect is an employee working in another shop within the plaza.After conducting interrogations and investigations, it was revealed that the suspect had used a blade to break into the shop and had successfully stolen the mobile phones, wireless headsets, phone accessories, and receipts. The Bayelsa Vigilante operatives arrested the suspect while he was attempting to sell the stolen phones, and it became evident that the receipts did not belong to him.
In light of this incident, Hon. Doubiye Alagba emphasized the importance of shop owners being vigilant and employing external security services to safeguard their businesses, particularly during nights and weekends.
Rt. Hon. Talford Ongolo, the owner of Akums Plaza shopping mall, confirmed the incident and acknowledged that the suspect was an employee of one of the companies operating within the plaza. He praised the vigilance of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service for apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen phones.
Ongolo also commended Governor Senator Douye Diri for his commitment to maintaining effective security in the state, emphasizing the value of the state government’s investment in security outfits.
Furthermore, the suspect has been handed over to the Operation Don-Akpo security outfit for further investigations.
