Taraba Appeals to NEDC for Flood Relief as Collapsed Bridges Isolate Regions

    Published on

The Taraba State government has urgently requested support from the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) for communities devastated by recent floods.

Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali made the appeal on Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, during a meeting with the NEDC management team. He highlighted the severe impact of the floods, which have led to the collapse of major bridges that connect the northern and southern regions of Taraba State.

Alkali stressed the urgent need for assistance in repairing the damaged infrastructure. “I urge you to assess the flood-affected areas, particularly the two collapsed bridges, and provide any support necessary to help us restore these crucial connections,” he said. The collapse of the bridges has not only caused significant hardship for local residents but has also disrupted travel and commerce throughout the state.

Additionally, Alkali requested that the NEDC coordinate with the state government when planning and executing projects to ensure they meet the needs of local communities effectively.

During the visit, Muhammad Alkali, Managing Director of NEDC, informed the deputy governor that the commission was conducting a project oversight visit. He assured that while the NEDC would continue to advance its ongoing projects, it would also initiate new projects that address the immediate needs of the communities affected by the floods.
