A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Chief Suffy Uguoji, has said the people of the South West would resist any attempt to truncate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s constitutional right to a second term.
Uguoji made this known while reacting to emerging political alignments and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He declared that no coalition formed with the objective of unseating Tinubu in 2027 will succeed, adding that Nigerians, particularly those in the South West, are solidly behind the President’s re-election bid.
The Ondo South Senatorial District APC leader argued that opposition to Tinubu should not be driven by desperation to take over power, noting that the President was still serving his first term and remains constitutionally entitled to seek re-election.
Drawing comparison with former President Muhammadu Buhari, Uguoji said Buhari, a Northerner from the North West, completed two terms despite criticisms, and there was no major coalition from the South to cut short his tenure.
“If a Northerner from the North West was allowed by Nigerians to go for a second term and complete it without considering his achievements after the first tenure, it is therefore expedient for anybody succeeding him from another region to also be entitled to the two terms that he served, to allow fairness and equity to reign,” he said.
He further noted that Tinubu stood with Buhari throughout his eight years in office and deserves the same consideration for a full two-term Presidency.
