    Soludo appoints new commissioners, Retains Law Mefor

    The Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday received the first batch of commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for screening and confirmation.
    The Speaker, Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, who announced the development during plenary, said the list had been formally transmitted to the House and subsequently referred to the Committee on Screening and Election Matters for legislative action.
    The nominees and their proposed portfolios include: Dr. Ben Chuks Odoemena (Agriculture); Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye, FCCA (Budget and Economic Planning); Mr. Udoji Amedu (Culture, Entertainment and Tourism); Dr. Ekene Ogugua (Education); Dr. Clem Aguiyi (Environment); Mr. Izuchukwu M. Okafor (Finance); Dr. Afam Obidike (Health); and Dr. Law Mefor (Information and Value Reformation).
    Others are Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN (Justice/Attorney-General); Prof. Offornze Amucheazi, SAN (Lands); Barr. Vin Ezeaka (Local Government and Community Affairs); Prof. Charles Ofoegbu (Petroleum and Mineral Resources); Barr. Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu (Physical Planning and Urban Development); Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu (Power); Arc. Okey Ezeobi (Works and Infrastructure); Hon. Eddy Ibuzo (Transport); Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi (Women Affairs and Social Development); and Mr. Patrick Agha, MBA (Youth Development and Sports).
    Speaker Udeze said the House would commence the screening process in line with its constitutional mandate, assuring that due diligence would be applied in assessing the competence and suitability of the nominees.
    The development marks the beginning of the formal process to constitute a new executive council, subject to legislative approval.
