A former Governor of Edo State, Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor has advised Candidates pursuing various positions on different party platforms to shun discourteous speeches or acts that could further heat up the polity and engender violence as general campaigns draw closer.

Speaking with Daily Newscraft in an exclusive interview in Abuja, the former Governor said, “The Country is already facing myriads of challenges that we are trying to get out of. My advice to all the Candidates whether under APC or Labour Party or PDP is to be civilized in their conduct. A Candidate must comport himself and market himself decently about plans for the people if voted into office. There is no need to disparage your opponent while canvassing for votes”.

The former Governor who is also a former Senator averred that Leaders never truly quarell and urged them to be exemplary so their followers will imbibe same attitude. “The relationship between President Muhammadu Buhari and Former President Good luck Jonathan is very roburst. Similarly, I believe whoever emerges as President in 2023 elections ought to embrace others and even get them to make inputs in the formation of his Government. The electorate must not be brainwashed into engaging in bickerings”.

Even as campaigns have not started in full swing, threats by one party against another are already filtering into the media landscape.
Just yesterday, the Presidential Candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had called on that of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi to advise his supporters not to disparage him again just as some of Obi’s supporters have told the APC Presidential Candidate not to visit south east to campaign.
