A senior officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) tragically passed away on Tuesday afternoon while on official duty before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts at the National Assembly complex.
The incident was confirmed in a statement by Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the House Spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs. He noted that the official experienced sudden health complications around 1:00 pm on June 25, 2024, during an engagement with the legislative committee. Despite prompt and diligent efforts from first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, the official unfortunately succumbed to his condition.
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee,” said Rep. Rotimi Jr.
Out of respect for the deceased’s family, the official’s name has not been disclosed. The House of Representatives extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues, acknowledging the significant contributions he made to the NCS and the nation.
Rep. Rotimi Jr. stated that the House stands ready to support efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are followed. He also conveyed the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen’s condolences, quoting him as saying, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a dedicated public servant. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time.”
