Senate confirms Oke, Are, Dalhatu as Nigeria’s new ambassadors

    Published on

The Senate, on Tuesday, gave its approval to three seasoned diplomats—Ayodele Oke, Colonel Kayode Are (rtd), and Amin Dalhatu—nominating them as Nigeria’s next ambassadors.

The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by its chairman, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello. The report recommended the appointment of the nominees based on their extensive experience in national and international service.

Ayodele Oke, a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and ex-Nigerian Ambassador to the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, brings years of intelligence and diplomatic experience to his new role. Colonel Kayode Are, retired, served as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), while Amin Dalhatu previously represented Nigeria as Ambassador to South Korea.

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, put the nominations to a voice vote, after which the lawmakers unanimously endorsed all three candidates, signaling strong confidence in their capabilities.

In his remarks, Akpabio urged the ambassadors-designate to leverage their wealth of experience and expertise to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and advance the country’s foreign policy objectives.

The Senate’s approval marks a key step in reinforcing Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad, with the new envoys expected to play pivotal roles in fostering bilateral relations, promoting trade, and enhancing the country’s international profile.
