    ‘Security Won’t Be Guaranteed’ – Edo Gov’s Old Warning to Peter Obi Resurfaces Online

    An old video of the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo allegedly threatening the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has resurfaced online.

    The governor gave the warning on July 18, 2025 during a political event in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of the state.

    In the 58 second video currently making the rounds on social media, the governor could be heard warning Obi against coming into the state without prior notice.

    He said, “The man wey say he no get shishi, I am sending a direct message to him, there is a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo State without telling me because his security will not be guaranteed.

    “Whatever happens to him in Edo State, he will take it. I am serious about this”.

    The video clip resurfaced on Tuesday following the alleged assassination attempt on Obi and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress, ADC in the state.

    it was reported that the politicians came under gunfire attack on Tuesday at the residence of the former Executive Governor of Edo State and currently the chairman of the ADC in the state, Chief John Odigie Oyegun.

    According to a viral video recorded after the incident, windscreens and body parts of Obi’s motorcade were destroyed by bullet.

    Reacting, some netizens linked the incident to the governor’s threat, warning that nothing should happen to the former governor.

    An X user @Victorfelix047 wrote, “On the 19th of July 2025. @Gov_Okpebholo threatened Peter Obi. Today being 24 February 2026 an Assssination attempt was targeted at Peter Obi and his team while in EDO state.
    “I hope people beating the drum for him will protect him when he is out of power if anything happens to Obi”.
