The holy month of Ramadan ends with the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
It also signifies the start of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
Muslims observe Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam, as a time for devotion and as a way to purify their souls via almsgiving and good actions.
In order to establish the beginning and conclusion of the Islamic lunar calendar, which includes Ramadan and Eid, Saudi Arabia possessed over ten astronomical observatories that looked for the crescent moon.
Accordingly, the first day of Eid Al Fitr in Saudi Arabia will be Sunday, March 30.
