Rivers Speaker recounts ordeal, escape from kidnappers

    Published on

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has thanked God for saving his life from kidnapping and assassination attempts in past years.

Amaewhule spoke during his 52nd birthday thanksgiving service at the All Saints Anglican Church, Eliozu, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

“I am not just celebrating another birthday, but also acknowledging that many people planned to take my life in the last year, but God did not allow them,” he said.

He recalled how he narrowly escaped death in 2008 after being kidnapped. According to him, some gunmen who had attended the same Sunday service followed him home, overpowered his security guard, and abducted him.

Amaewhule said he was taken into a forest and held hostage for five days.
“They placed thorns under my feet and injured my head and body as they moved me from one hideout to another. They only fed me with biscuits, and I almost bled to death,” he recounted.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to God for His blessings and protection over the years. “When God does things for you, it is important to thank Him for more,” he added.
