President Bola Tinubu has authorized the allocation of more than N217 billion for a comprehensive road repair and construction initiative spanning the entire nation. This announcement was made by the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, following his meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The allocated funds will be utilized for emergency repairs on 260 roads throughout the country, amounting to approximately N217 billion. Additionally, President Tinubu has given the green light for a variety of road construction projects, including upgrades to existing ones.

Notable among the approved road projects are the resurfacing of the 3rd Mainland Bridge, the construction of the Lekki deep seaport road, the reconstruction of two collapsed bridges in Enugu, and the restoration of two sections along the Onitsha-Owerri Road. Furthermore, the plans encompass the upgrade of the ongoing Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia road, the dualization of the Lafia bypass, and the development of the 7th AXA Road, including the access to Lekki Deep Seaport, all located in Lagos.

In addition to these initiatives, President Tinubu has also sanctioned the reconstitution of the Board of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) with the objective of expediting road maintenance efforts on a national scale.

The projects are set to commence in November, taking advantage of the dry season for optimal construction conditions.

Minister Umahi expressed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s profound commitment to restoring and enhancing the road infrastructure across the country. He also conveyed that every request he had presented regarding road repairs and construction had been approved by the President.

He expressed confidence in the timely and budget-conscious completion of these projects, asserting that they would significantly bolster the nation’s road network and stimulate economic growth.
