Peter Obi submits application to ADC, declares one-term presidency plan

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has officially submitted an application to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the newly adopted platform of the opposition coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

In his application, Peter Obi reportedly made it clear that he is contesting for only one term, stressing that four years is enough to begin the transformation of Nigeria. He also firmly stated that he is not running on a joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar, nor as a deputy to any candidate.

This move follows the decision by the coalition of opposition groups to adopt ADC as their new political party, after their earlier attempt to register a new party under the name ADA failed. Reports suggest that at least three different political interests tried to register the same ADA acronym, which led to its rejection by INEC to avoid confusion among voters.

In a surprising development, former Senate President David Mark has emerged as the acting chairman of ADC, after reportedly leaving the PDP. Additionally, former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is said to be taking the role of secretary of the party.

Peter Obi’s official defection to ADC is expected to be made public in the coming days.
