A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a Board of Trustees member, Adamu Waziri has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday.
Waziri’s deflection also attracted more officials of the opposition party, including the former First Lady of the Adamawa State, Dr Zainab Haruna, and other ward officials of PDP, who officially tendered their resignation from the PDP in formal letters in Potiskum Local Government Area on Monday.
Waziri, who announced his decision at his Dogo Tebo Ward in Potiskum, Yobe State, emphasising that the move aligns with the PDP’s constitution, which mandates formal resignation at the ward level.
Explaining his departure, Waziri stated that the PDP no longer embodies the values of a credible opposition.
“I was a member of PDP, and due to the emergencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” he said.
He urged his followers to join him in backing a new political movement aimed at strengthening democracy and improving governance.
Waziri described his decision as difficult but necessary, asserting that the current PDP leadership has lost its direction.
In a significant development, Malam Muhammad Bomai, the PDP Ward Chairman, who represented the local leadership, accepted Waziri’s resignation with regret, acknowledging him as a “pillar of the party.”
Speaking of her resignation, Zainab noted that Yobe was lucky to have Mr Adamu Waziri as the leader of our great party and also our further in politics, adding that he would consolidate the achievements of Atiku Abubakar.
“We, in the party, will protect the interest of the party and our people to get what is due for the state and support presidential candidate in 2027 Atiku Abubakar to move Nigeria to the next level,” she said.
The ADC leader in state, Hon Adamu Maina Waziri, who received the defectors, urged the electorate in the state to vote massively in the governorship and presidential election.
Similarly, a zonal Vice Chairman of the PDP Zone B, Alhaji Hassan Sheriff, has formally resigned his membership from the party to the ADC in the state.
His defection was contained in a resignation letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Bolewa B on 6/7/2025.
“I am writing to formally resign my membership with (PDP) effective immediately.
“I wish to tell you that this decision has not come easily, As I have greatly valued my time with the party and the opportunities for personal and professional growth it has afforded me.
“Over the years. I have had the pleasure of working alongside many dedicated individuals who share a commitment to serving our community. I am proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together and grateful for the friendship I have made.
“However, after careful consideration. I believe it is time for me to pursue other opportunities and personal endeavors. I hope to maintain the relationship I have built during my time with PDP and wish the party continued success in all its future efforts,” he said.
Another defector, Nangere/Potiskum House of Representatives candidate during 2023 general election and Yobe State PDP chieftain, Engr. Abubakar Adamu Waziri (CARGO), also submitted his letter of resignation from PDP through his Bolewa B ward chairman and joined ADC.
It was gathered that, those joined the coalition former senatorial candidate, Dr Aji Kolomi, Dr Ilu Bello, Dr Manu Muhammed, former lawmaker Hon Lawan Mammadu Kori, former Potiskum Local Government Area, PDP chairman, Alh Adamu Muhammed Rama, and others.
Also, one of Buni’s aides, Hon Babagana Yakubu Mohammad, who defected to ADC, confirmed that many supporters of APC members are currently in a secret meeting with leaders of ADC, following the massive detection from PDP supporters in the state.
According to information, more members of the opposition parties are coming to the coalition for the interest of the nation, due to the poor leadership of the ruling party both state and nation.
