As the country marked the 2025 Inauguration Day yesterday, the National Chairman of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, has sent a strong message of commendation and encouragement to governors of the South South region, praising their performance and urging them to sustain the pace of development.

The respected statesman and diplomat praised the governors’ progress since assuming office in a comprehensive press release, pointing out that their efforts in social services and infrastructure are progressively changing the perception of the Niger Delta.

He cited continuing port modernisation initiatives, significant road and bridge developments, and advancements in healthcare and education as glaring examples of success.

“These initiatives are laying a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth, fostering regional integration, and significantly improving connectivity between our people,” the statement read in part.

Igali praised the governors’ efforts to improve the welfare of the populace while also praising the physical infrastructure.

“Impressive improvements in the quality of life” was how he characterised their healthcare, education, and general well-being initiatives.

His message was not just one of celebration, but also a call to action, making it clear that the region’s success story is far from finished.

“The time to rest has not come. With your eyes on the ball, we remain optimistic that the South South region will continue on this path of growth,” he said.

The statement carries added weight in the context of the Niger Delta’s notoriously difficult terrain and long-standing development challenges.

Igali pointedly noted that the region is proving what’s possible despite “very difficult, water-logged terrain,” positioning the South South as a model for others.

However, it wasn’t all praise. PANDEF’s leader also addressed ongoing concerns, especially the deepening political crisis in Rivers State. Without naming names, Igali acknowledged the “unfortunate ongoing political crisis and the prevailing democratic erosion” there, while expressing confidence that “Rivers State will soon be free.”

He reaffirmed PANDEF’s role in promoting peace and unity in the region, urging citizens, elders, and community leaders to support the governors through cooperation and prayers.

“Such collective effort is vital in sustaining the current momentum,” he said.

The message ended on a note of cautious optimism and regional pride.

“The South South is emerging as a leading light in the federation… demonstrating the vast potential for development, prosperity, and unity, which other regions can look up to for inspiration,” he added.
