    Osun Government Shuts Down Gold Firm Over Alleged ₦60 Billion Tax Evasion and Environmental Violations

    The Osun State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Segilola Mining Gold Limited following a magistrate court ruling in Osogbo. This action stems from allegations of ₦60 billion in tax evasion and violations of environmental regulations.

    Under court supervision, armed security personnel, including members of the Police Joint Task Force and Amotekun operatives, have sealed off the company’s premises. The Osun State government is committed to addressing these allegations and ensuring compliance with tax and environmental laws.

    Segilola Mining has denied the accusations, asserting that it has always acted as a law-abiding corporate entity, fulfilling all tax obligations.

    A motion filed on September 27, 2024, by the Attorney-General of Osun State sought the court’s order to close Segilola’s operations due to violations related to tax audits on Payee, Withholding Taxes, and Development Levy from 2019 to 2023. Chief Magistrate Dr. Olusegun Ayilara granted the closure order, stating that Segilola’s business premises in Osun State could remain sealed until the owed amounts are fully paid into the state’s account.
