Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi delivered eye-catching performances in their final club matches before linking up with the national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Osimhen was on the scoresheet as Galatasaray cruised to a 4–1 victory over Antalyaspor on Saturday, underlining Nigeria’s attacking firepower ahead of the continental showpiece. The Turkish league leaders wasted no time asserting dominance, with Leroy Sané opening the scoring in the seventh minute before Roland Sallai doubled the lead four minutes later.
The highlight arrived in the 56th minute when Osimhen showcased his trademark strength and precision. Latching onto a well-weighted pass from Yunus Akgün on the left flank, the striker powered into the penalty area and fired an unstoppable shot from a tight angle to make it 3–0. Antalyaspor pulled one back late on, but Mauro Icardi sealed the win from the bench, keeping Galatasaray top of the table with 39 points.
In England, Nigeria’s Fulham contingent also caught the eye as the Cottagers handed Burnley a seventh consecutive Premier League defeat. Harry Wilson starred with two assists and a goal in an entertaining encounter.
Fulham took the lead when Wilson’s low corner slipped past full-back Quilindschy Hartman, allowing Emile Smith Rowe to turn the ball home from close range. Burnley responded through Lesley Ugochukwu, but Fulham restored their advantage after the half-hour mark when Calvin Bassey rose unchallenged to head in following another inviting delivery from Wilson.
Wilson later made it 3–1 with a composed finish into the far corner after being teed up by Chukwueze. Burnley’s Oliver Sonne scored a late consolation, but it did little to alter the outcome.
Bassey and Chukwueze completed the full 90 minutes, while Iwobi was withdrawn in the 79th minute for Sasa Lukic.
The Super Eagles players will now report to Nigeria’s AFCON training camp in Cairo, Egypt, which opens on Monday, December 15. A friendly match against hosts Egypt is scheduled for Tuesday before the team travels to Fez, Morocco, where all Group C fixtures will be played.
Nigeria will face Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania in the group, with their opening match set for December 23 against Tanzania.
