Oshodi Named to World Table Tennis Board in Historic Appointment

    Published on

Wahid Oshodi has been appointed to the board of World Table Tennis (WTT), the commercial arm of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

The decision was announced during the ITTF Executive Board meeting held on March 1, 2026, at the WTT headquarters in Singapore.

Oshodi becomes the first African to serve as a full director on the WTT board. Since its launch in 2019, World Table Tennis has sought to transform the professional game through a modern, commercially focused structure.

Following the allocation of portfolios, ITTF president Petra Sörling and executive vice president Oshodi were selected to represent the ITTF on the WTT board.

At a subsequent meeting, Sörling was confirmed as chair of the board, succeeding Liu Guoliang of China and Khalil Al-Mohannadi of Qatar.

As majority owner of WTT, the ITTF said it carries the responsibility of ensuring the commercial platform delivers lasting value to the sport and its 227 member associations around the world.

The latest appointments are seen as part of that effort, strengthening oversight and shaping the organisation’s long-term direction.

Lei Zhenjian and Steve Dainton will remain on the board in their existing roles.

“The ITTF has always been the foundation on which table tennis thrives, and WTT is our instrument to take it further,” Sörling said.

“As chair of the board, I am here to ensure that WTT operates with profitability, governance, accountability, and long-term vision. The potential is significant, and what we owe players, fans, and the broader table tennis community is the discipline to realise it.”

Oshodi also spoke on his new role. He said, “Strong governance is what gives an organisation the structure to grow sustainably. I look forward to contributing to that work as the board focuses on putting solid foundations in place for WTT’s long-term development.”

Oshodi currently serves as president of the African Table Tennis Federation and previously led the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), where he gained recognition for pushing governance reforms and strengthening athlete development programmes.

His time in charge saw renewed emphasis on grassroots initiatives and talent discovery, moves widely credited with boosting the sport’s structure in Nigeria.
