Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading educational infrastructure across the state.
Oborevwori gave the assurance on Monday, during the inauguration of the Model Technical College, Omadino in Warri South Local Government Area of the state.
The governor described technical and vocational education as one of the most effective tools for tackling youth unemployment in the country.
He said that students from the technical college would emerged as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and employers of labour rather than job seekers.
The facilities within the institution include: 12 classrooms and nine fully equipped workshops to enhance learning and skills acquisition.
Others are two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge and a corps members’ lodge among others.
Oborevwori described the institution as a flagship investment in technical and vocational education by his administration.
He said that within two years, his administration had delivered landmark projects without borrowing or imposing additional burdens on the people of Delta.
“Even, I am often amazed at how much we have been able to achieve within two years without borrowing.
“This project is a clear example of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly and that is why delivery was timely,” he said
Oborevwori said that the college represents another major milestone in the advancement of technical and vocational education in Delta.
He further said that the school reflected clarity of vision, strategic planning and disciplined execution.
“The internal road network, administrative blocks, classrooms, workshops and laboratories are clear evidence of my administration’s commitment to quality education.
“I thank my predecessor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for initiating the project.
“Today, I am pleased to see a beautiful and solid edifice standing proudly. We give God all the glory.
“With the high-quality facilities provided here, I am confident that students of this college can compete with the best anywhere in the world,” he said.
The governor, however, appealed to the management, staff, students and host community to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities, stressing that government properties represents taxpayers’ commonwealth.
Earlier, Mr Smart Ufoh, the State Commissioner for Technical Education, described the college as a bold statement of purpose and a symbol of transformation.
In his remarks, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Mr Weyinmi Agbateyiniro expressed deep appreciation to Gov. Oborevwori for his impactful leadership and numerous development projects across the state.
He described the college alongside major infrastructure such as the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges and the near-completed Warri City Stadium, among others as landmark achievement in Warri South.
“The people of Warri South are firmly behind the governor and we are confident in his leadership ahead of 2027,” Agbateyiniro said.
On his part, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 111, thanked the governor for his commitment to the development of riverine communities.
The royal father urged the governor to sustain and expand investments in schools, bridges, roads and jetties across riverine areas of the state.
In attendance were: the Deputy Gov., Sir Monday Onyeme; Speaker, Delta House of Assembly, Mr Emomotimi Guwor; Speaker, Edo House of Assembly, Mr Blessing Agbebaku.
Others were: Speaker, Bayelsa House of Assembly, Mr Abraham Ingobere and Speaker, Anambra House of Assembly, Mr Udeze Somtochukwu and among others.
