Obasanjo: New Minimum wage: Labour leaders defrauded workers, embezzled funds from government

    Published on

The new N70,000 minimum salary that President Bola Tinubu approved for workers last year has drawn criticism from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to Obasanjo, it is insufficient to meet their fundamental requirements for housing, food, and transportation.

The former president added that labor leaders had misled workers by putting their own interests ahead of the wellbeing of the group.

In the third decade of the twenty-first century, such is the state of affairs in Nigeria.

In his recently published book, “Nigeria: Past and Future,” Obasanjo stated that “some workers’ transportation expenses are not even covered by the minimum wage, let alone food, housing, and family upkeep.”

Additionally, Obasanjo asserted that labor leaders are more concerned with furthering their own agendas.
