National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Police in Anambra State have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in addressing the security and welfare needs of Corps members in the State.

Both parties gave the assurance during a courtesy visit of NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma to the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, at the Command Headquarters in Awka.

Receiving the NYSC delegation, the CP lauded the scheme’s transformational growth over the years.

He underscored the critical partnership between the NYSC and the Police in ensuring the safety and seamless service of Corps members within the state.

“The NYSC has tremendously improved from what it used to be. The Police need the NYSC as much as the NYSC needs the Police,” he affirmed.

Emphasizing the shared responsibility both institutions bear in fostering a safe environment, Orutugu advised on intensifying sensitization efforts for Corps members, particularly to discourage excessive and unnecessary travel.

“I know you’ve been sensitizing them on this issue, but more needs to be done,” he added.

Earlier, the NYSC boss expressed gratitude for the existing positive rapport between the NYSC and the Police Command.

She highlighted the indispensable role of the Police in providing the security backbone that enables Corps members to carry out their duties effectively.

“We came to familiarize ourselves with you and solidify our collaboration with the Police, a partnership we have enjoyed positively with your predecessors,” she noted.

The visit, which brought together key officials from both institutions, aimed to further align efforts in ensuring the well-being of Corps members.

The meeting served as a reminder of the mutual dependency and shared objectives between the NYSC and the Police Force in nation-building efforts.

This visit highlights the ongoing dedication to creating a secure and conducive environment for Corps members—a cornerstone in achieving the NYSC’s mission of fostering national unity and development.

Accompanying the State Coordinator were Mr. Ferdinand Anya, Zonal Inspector for Awka; Mr. Felix Nnamdi Obiekwe, Head of Inspection and Public Relations and Dr. Ikechukwu Okafor, Local Government Inspector for Awka South.
