NWFL: ₦24.5m prize money for 2025 premiership super 6 to boost female football

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced a total prize pool of ₦24.5 million for the 2025 Premiership Super 6 tournament, a move aimed at boosting the growth and professionalism of women’s football in the country.

According to a statement released on Thursday by NWFL Media Director, Samuel Ahmadu, the enhanced prize structure represents a significant increase in financial support for participating teams.

Champions will receive ₦10 million, maintaining the amount awarded over the last two seasons. Runners-up will take home ₦6 million, while the third-placed team will earn ₦4 million—both increased by ₦1 million compared to last year.
In a notable improvement, the bottom three teams will each receive ₦1.5 million, tripling the ₦500,000 awarded previously.

NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi highlighted that this revised reward system aligns with the league’s vision to professionalize women’s football in Nigeria and encourage more investment at the club level.

This is a deliberate step to ensure that all clubs leave the NWFL Premiership Super 6 with something tangible,” Obi stated. “By increasing financial rewards, especially for the bottom three, we’re reinforcing our commitment to the women’s game.

Beyond the prize money, the 2025 Super 6 champion will secure Nigeria’s sole slot in the WAFU Zone B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League. A strong performance there could lead to participation in the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Championship if the team reaches the final.

As the tournament approaches its final matchday on Saturday, May 17, the title race remains intense with Bayelsa Queens, defending champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and Remo Stars Ladies making their Super 6 debut all still vying for the top spot.
