    NSCDC says it remains committed to protection of infrastructure despite loss of personnel in Bayelsa

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa says it remains committed to its mandate of protecting critical infrastructure in spite of recent attack that claimed the life of its personnel in line of duty.

    The NSCDC noted the recent attack on its men attached to Tantita Surveillance Security Services which led to the gruesome murder of NSCDC officer in line of duty will not dampen the morale of its officers and men.

    The Commandant of NSCDC in Bayelsa Eweka Douglas sàid on Tuesday that the Corps will continue to clamp down on Vandals in the state.

    Douglas spoke while reacting to a recent incident where one officer lost his life during a joint operation with other security agencies and were ambushed by some assailants suspected to be oil thieves.

    The Commandant, in a said the command lost one of its personnel in the attack along Igbomotoru community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

    According to him, the incident occurred at about 2:30 pm on April 10, the joint patrol team was returning from a clampdown operation where they were ambushed and exchange of gunfire took place but unfortunately the NSCDC lost one personnel.

    “The NSCDC as the leading Agency in the Protection of critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the Nation will not be deterred by any attack by vandals whose aim is to sabotage the effort of the government in eradicating bunkery activities in the Niger Delta Region.

    “The NSCDC High Command commended the courage and resilience of the combined team despite the ambushing of the team and a man hunt has been launched for the assailants in order to bring them to book.

    “Meanwhile, the remains of the slain officer, Victor Ibang has been deposited at the morgue as the Corps condoles with the family noting that the necessary rites and benefits would be accorded to late Ibang in due course,”
