No sitting governor dares join ADC — Party Spokesman

    Published on

National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi has said that sitting governors aren’t flocking to the party, not because they don’t believe in it, but because they’re being watched by the ruling party.

Speaking candidly at the third plenary session of the Northern Political Consultative Group (NPCG) in Abuja, Abdullahi claimed serving governors are being quietly but heavily intimidated by federal forces, effectively locking them in place.

“No serving governor would dare cross over. We know what’s happening behind the curtains. The pressure, the threats, it’s real,” he said.

Some, he said, are even accused of endorsing opposition presidential candidates simply for voicing dissent. “It’s a conspiracy, not just against the ADC, but against the will of the Nigerian people.”

Still, Abdullahi insists the ADC is wide open. “We’re a home for those tired of the status quo.

“We’re not chasing power for power’s sake. We’re building a real movement,” he said.

On the much-speculated 2027 presidential race, Abdullahi poured cold water on the gossip, saying the party hasn’t endorsed any candidate.

“We’re not there yet. No anointed candidate. No backroom deals. Right now, our priority is building a strong political vehicle that can drive real change.”

Earlier, ex-SGF Babachir Lawal, another member of the growing coalition, vowed that the ADC would support whoever emerges through democratic processes, regardless of tribe or region.

“This party’s foundation is built on internal democracy,” Lawal declared.

And while names like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi are being whispered in connection with the ADC, there’s still no official coronation.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, who appears unfazed, has waved off the coalition’s threats as nothing more than “a coalition of confusion.”
