    Nigeria to strengthen health cooperation with Brazil

    Following the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Brazil, the Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged to strengthen cooperation with Brazil in the area of health.

    Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, who disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, stated that Tinubu’s visit is the “restart of Nigeria-Brazil relationship.”

    Salako, who was part of the delegation on the state visit, said that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva described the visit as the “restart of Nigeria-Brazil relationship.”

    The minister noted that both presidents had demonstrated an inspiring brotherhood and an uncommon commitment to strengthened South-South cooperation for the benefit of the two countries.

    He added that Nigeria also proposed the development of a Five-Year Joint Action Plan to take the MOU signed in July between the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria, and the Ministry of Health of the Federative Republic of Brazil forward.

    In a statement, Salako also revealed that Nigeria proposed a strategic government-to-government procurement deal for the health sectors of the two countries.

    He continued:
    “Both presidents demonstrated an inspiring brotherhood and an uncommon commitment to strengthened South-South cooperation for the benefit of the two countries. During the high-level bilateral interaction of ministers and senior government officials, it was an opportunity to chart a way forward in the health cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil.

    “Nigeria proposed the development of a Five-Year Joint Action Plan to take the MOU signed in July between the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria, and the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil forward.

    “Nigeria also proposed a strategic government-to-government procurement deal for the health sectors of our two countries.”
