Dr. Dale Alake, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the mining sector into a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic diversification away from oil dependence. At a press briefing in Abuja on September 18, 2024, Alake, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mary Ogbe, emphasized the critical role of harnessing Nigeria’s vast mineral wealth for sustainable economic growth.

Alake unveiled plans for the 9th Nigeria Mining Week (NMW), slated for November 18-20, 2024, in Abuja. He described the event as pivotal for stakeholders to engage in discussions aimed at exploring and maximizing opportunities within the mining industry.

With the theme for this year’s NMW yet to be disclosed, Alake highlighted its alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This strategic initiative prioritizes value addition, job creation, and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global commodities market through effective utilization of mineral resources.

Acknowledging the NMW’s pivotal role since its inception in 2016, Alake underscored its impact in reshaping perceptions of Nigeria’s mining potential and fostering international partnerships. He expressed optimism that the event would continue to elevate discourse on Nigeria’s mining sector, driving its transformation and economic contribution.

Dele Ayanleke, National President of the Miners Association of Nigeria, echoed these sentiments, lauding the NMW for introducing cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to enhance sectoral returns on investments. He emphasized the event’s growing influence on the global stage while advocating for further expansion of its reach and impact.

Looking forward, the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at optimizing regulatory frameworks and supporting sustainable growth in Nigeria’s mining sector.
