Staff of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) have been advised to embark on regular physical exercises to improve their health and well-being.
The advice was given by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, FNSE at the opening of NEMSA staff football tournament in Abuja on Saturday
Engr. Tukur who also doubles as the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation (CEIF) praised the organizers of the event and urged them not to relent promising that NEMSA management under his leadership would do everything possible to support the teams as they prepare for the Head of Service games and other sporting activities this year
Said he, “physical exercise is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being of an individual as it offers benefits across physical and mental health domains. Regular exercise reduces the risk of chronic diseases, improves cardiovascular health, strengthens bones and muscles, and enhances mental health by boosting mood and reducing stress.
“ Medical reports have shown that exercise plays a significant role in preventing and managing diseases like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancers, according to medical experts. It also strengthens the heart and improves blood circulation, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, among other health benefits”, the MD said.
Engr Aliyu who was highly elated by the large turnout of staff at the event, praised the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by both the footballers and their supporters which he said reinforces the spirit of togetherness, harmony, love and unity in the government owned agency and urged them to sustain the spirit
“This is a family game. The purpose is to build up the strength of our inspectors and other staff in the task of discharging our mandate of ensuring an efficient production and delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable electricity power supply and guarantee safety of lives and property in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) and other allied industries in Nigeria.
“ As staff you need to be strong and healthy to effectively discharge your responsibilities. At the last management meeting, we promised to improve staff welfare as well as provide avenues for team building and harmonious relationship among the staff. And this we are determined to do.
“ My coming here today has indeed opened my eyes to the huge potentials in NEMSA. We not only have talented engineers and administrative staff but equally talented footballers. Therefore, I must say that I am proud of you all. Management will ensure that these teams are sustained and actively encouraged to participate in the Head of Service games and other tournaments .
Responding, the Team manager, Mr. Destiny Ikem thanked the MD/CEO for finding time to attend the event despite his busy schedule. He said the football match was one out of other sporting activities lined up to improve the physical, mental and psychological fitness of staff to enable them effectively discharge their duties.
