NELFUND Inaugurates Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit to Strengthen Ethical Governance

    Published on

Earlier today, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) officially inaugurated and inducted its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), marking a major step in the institution’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct.

The ceremony represents an important milestone in NELFUND’s institutional development, reinforcing its resolve to entrench strong governance practices and uphold integrity across all aspects of its operations.

Delivering the opening and welcome remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, reiterated Management’s unwavering commitment to integrity-based systems, effective internal controls, and a zero-tolerance stance on corruption in the execution of the Fund’s mandate.

The event was attended by the Executive Director, Operations, Mr. Mustapha Iyal, alongside Directors, Heads of Units, and staff from relevant departments.

A goodwill message was delivered by the Honourable Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, who commended NELFUND’s Management and staff for the successful establishment of the ACTU. He described the Unit as a vital internal framework for detecting institutional gaps, fostering ethical standards, and strengthening compliance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Dr. Aliyu emphasized that the ACTU serves as a supportive mechanism to Management rather than a substitute, and stressed the importance of sustained institutional backing to ensure the Unit effectively carries out its mandate.

The establishment of the ACTU aligns with NELFUND’s mission to expand access to education financing while maintaining the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and public confidence.

Management has called on all staff to fully support the ACTU and to continue discharging their responsibilities with professionalism, diligence, and ethical discipline.

    Thank you.
