The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has commended the Swedish Government and Ericsson for their long-term partnership in capacity building. The partnership has helped strengthen the NCC’s regulatory activities in the telecommunications sector.

In a statement signed by Reuben Mouka, Director Public Affairs, on Wednesday. Danbatta emphasized the role of the NCC as a regulator in the West African sub-region and highlighted the importance of keeping up with the evolving dynamics of the sector.

He also acknowledged the Swedish Government and its program for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in developing and emerging regions for their contribution to ICT development and poverty reduction in West Africa.

The Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Annika Hahn, emphasized the significance of ICT regulation and capacity building for economic development and social progress. She also highlighted the need for modern and adaptable regulation to navigate the rapidly-evolving technological landscape.

The ambassador mentioned the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in accelerating the adoption of ICT globally and the role of e-learning in transforming education.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration in knowledge-sharing and up-skilling of human resources to drive growth in the telecommunications sector in Sub-Saharan Africa.
