    NBS adopts New approach to measure poverty index in Nigeria

    National Bureau Statistics has discribed Multidimensional Poverty Index survey 2021/2022 as ever largest survey conducted by any country around the world. The survey report Will be Launch on Thursday in Abuja

    The Statistician-General, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran in an address in an interactive session with press and CSO’s, on Tuesday in Abuja explained the importance of the MPI as a new official statistic and policy tool to measure and alleviate poverty in Nigeria in all it’s forms and dimension.

    He commended the media rule in promoting NBS activities and therefore admonished the Journalist to have a better understanding of the report that is to be Launch on Thursday for proper reporting of figures.

    MPI is differ from monetary poverty measure index because it covered Dimension of Health, Education, Living stardard and work shocks. The indicators include; health nutrition, food insecurity, time to healthcare, school attendence,year of schooling, water, water reliability, sanitation, housing materials, cooking fuel,asset according to SDG guidelines. Work and shock indicator include unemployment, underemployment and security

    The survey Representatives at national, zonal, State and senatorial district level as well as for urban and rural areas which completed 52,022 households across 3,774 enumeration areas across the country. Fielded between November 2021 to February 2022(face to face interviews) that captures situation post-COVID for many important indicators for the first time.
