    NASS approves bill to penalize sexual offenders in universities

    The National Assembly has successfully passed a bill that addresses and penalizes sexual harassment by educators in tertiary institutions. The Senate and the House of Representatives had previously passed similar bills, albeit with varying provisions.During a plenary session, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, presented the report of the conference committee that harmonized the differing positions of both chambers. The proposed legislation aims to criminalize sexual harassment by educators targeting students in tertiary institutions.The National Assembly has passed legislation that mandates the inclusion of preventive measures against sexual and gender-based violence in the curriculum of all levels of secondary education in Nigeria. This move aims to create awareness and promote measures to prevent such acts of violence.
