The Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) has announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Information Management and Fact-Checking into its curriculum, as part of efforts to enhance the capacity of personnel in Strategic Communication.

The Acting Commandant of NASPRI, Lieutenant Colonel Adamu Ngulde, made this known during the inauguration ceremony for the Second Quarter Courses 2025, held at the Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja Auditorium, Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.

In his address to participants of the Strategic Communication Course, Lt Col Ngulde emphasized the importance of embracing current trends in communication, especially with the growing influence of AI in information warfare. He revealed that the school is partnering with the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Abuja, and Professor Ishaq Oyebisi Oyefolahan, a research professor at the Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL), to deliver cutting-edge training in the field.

“Strategic Communication is critical in shaping military narratives, aligning messaging with national interest, and combating misinformation in both peace and conflict situations,” he said.

He also underscored the value of visual storytelling in public relations, reminding participants of the A1 Photojournalism Course of the vital role that photographs play in documenting military activities and fostering public trust. He added that graphic design and printing remain essential in ensuring communication materials are impactful and professionally presented.

Reaffirming NASPRI’s commitment to excellence, Lt Col Ngulde assured all students that their training will be comprehensive and tailored to meet the demands of modern military communication.

The Commandant expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his steadfast support to the Directorate of Army Public Relations and NASPRI. He also thanked the Commander of TRADOC NA, Major General Kelvin Aligbe, and the Chief of Training (Army), Major General AS Ndalolo, for their guidance and contributions to the school’s continued success.

Earlier, the Acting Chief Instructor, Major Tonye Wenke, highlighted the significance of the courses, describing them as key to career advancement and effective service delivery. He urged the students to remain focused and disciplined, as they will be trained in a range of subjects aimed at equipping them for 5th Generation Warfare – an era defined by information dominance.

Major Wenke further stressed the importance of adhering to NASPRI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and maintaining the high standards of discipline expected of military personnel.

A total of 76 students are enrolled in the Second Quarter 2025 courses, including 16 senior officers participating in the Strategic Communication Course, as well as those in the A1 Photojournalism and X3 Graphics Design and Printing courses.
