NANS Demands Apology from Ogun Deputy Governor Over Protest Incident

    Published on

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, demanding an apology over an alleged clash between her security convoy and protesting students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta.

    ### Students’ Demands
At a press briefing on Thursday, NANS Ogun JCC Chairman, Adeyanju Francis, called for Governor Dapo Abiodun to investigate claims that security operatives attached to the deputy governor’s convoy fired on peaceful protesters during a demonstration on Wednesday, injuring a student leader.

Adeyanju dismissed a statement by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, as false and misleading. He described allegations that students attacked the deputy governor’s convoy as baseless and an attempt to damage the students’ reputation.

    ### Protest Details
According to the students, the protest was peaceful and aimed at presenting grievances to the Governor’s Office in Oke Mosan.

“The students were singing and chanting protest songs to draw attention to their plight when they encountered the deputy governor’s convoy at Oke Ilewo,” Adeyanju explained.

Instead of engaging the students, he alleged, the security team opened fire, resulting in injuries to a NANS leader.

    ### NANS’ Position
NANS Ogun has threatened to mobilize a statewide protest if an apology is not issued within 24 hours.

The group also emphasized its commitment to peaceful advocacy, urging the state government to address the students’ concerns promptly to prevent further escalation
