The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has emphasized the crucial role of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the successful implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s 8-point agenda during her visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar.

This was contained in a statement issued by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday.

Dr. Betta Edu stressed that the Nigerian President remained dedicated to reducing the number of Nigerians in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, regardless of their location. However, achieving this objective depended on the Ministry’s ability to reach individuals residing in remote and inaccessible areas. Recognizing the challenges faced in gaining access to these locations, the Minister sought assurance and assistance from the NAF in delivering relief materials to those in need who are hindered by difficult terrains or insecurity.

In addition, Dr. Edu announced that the families of NAF veterans and those who sacrificed their lives while on active duty would be included in an expanded poverty alleviation program scheduled to launch in the upcoming weeks. To facilitate the inclusion of suitable NAF beneficiaries in the program, the Minister proposed the establishment of a humanitarian desk officer at NAF Headquarters. This would ensure efficient coordination and collaboration with her Ministry during the compilation and submission of the list of beneficiaries.

Furthermore, Dr. Edu commended the NAF for its valuable support in casualty evacuation, distribution of relief materials, and the safe evacuation of stranded Nigerians from conflict areas overseas.

Air Marshal Abubakar expressed the NAF’s long-standing collaborative relationship with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, whether directly or through its various agencies. He assured the Minister of the NAF’s readiness and eagerness to assist in achieving the Ministry’s mandate, highlighting effective coordination as the cornerstone of successful humanitarian operations.

According to the statement, the Chief of the Air Staff proposed areas of partnership between the NAF and the Ministry, including joint training and capacity building, optimized disaster response protocols, and efficient allocation of resources to reach those in need promptly.

During her visit, the Minister laid a wreath at the NAF Memorial arcade, honoring fallen heroes.
