Muslim World League, in collaboration with Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah, JIBWIS, held 2026 convene an international security conference in Abuja to discuss peaceful coexistence, national unity and security.
The conference held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, will brought together religious leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to deliberate on the nexus between peace, security and socio-economic development.
It promoted dialogue and mutual understanding among Muslims, Christians and adherents of other faiths.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the peace and unity of the nation.
Idris disclosed this during the inauguration of a newly constructed mosque in Abuja by the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Scholars, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.
The Minister, who received Sheikh Al-Issa at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and accompanied him to the mosque inauguration, said the visit reflects the strong relations between Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and the international community.
He said the conference is significant as Nigeria continues to strengthen its national security architecture while implementing reforms to accelerate socio-economic development.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to promoting peaceful coexistence, religious harmony and national unity.
“The President is determined to ensure peace and tranquillity not just in Nigeria, but around the world. This is a clear demonstration of the path that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking,” Idris said.
The Minister stressed that as Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria has a responsibility to promote peace and stability across the continent, adding that a peaceful Nigeria would positively impact West Africa and the wider continent.
He said the conference would provide a platform for religious leaders and stakeholders to exchange ideas and develop practical strategies for strengthening peaceful coexistence and security.
Idris commended the Muslim World League, JIBWIS, the Saudi Arabian Government and other stakeholders for facilitating Sheikh Al-Issa’s visit and the establishment of the mosque.
Earlier, Sheikh Al-Issa commended President Tinubu for efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims.
He said peace and harmony in Nigeria would contribute significantly to stability in West Africa and the wider world.
The Secretary-General said his visit was focused on promoting peace and peaceful coexistence, and expressed confidence that the conference would advance dialogue, harmony and mutual understanding in Nigeria and beyond.
