Super Eagles and former Leicester City forward, Ahmed Musa, will continue playing active football for Kano Pillars FC even as he takes on the role of General Manager of the club, a top source at the club, Akpan Essien has confirmed.
“Confirmed!! Ahmed Musa will continue playing actively for Kano Pillars FC while also serving as the club’s General Manager,” Essien wrote.
According to him, Musa has not hung up his boots and participated in a training session with the squad earlier in the day.
“Ahmed Musa has not retired from active football. He will continue playing while also working to reposition the club as General Manager. He trained with the rest of the squad today and is experienced enough to handle this new responsibility,” Essien added.
This development ends days of speculation surrounding Musa’s future on the field following his official assumption of office as General Manager of Kano Pillars on Monday, July 7.
The club had kept quiet on whether the 31-year-old would return to the pitch, even as he began stakeholder engagements and unveiled plans to transform the club’s fortunes.
At a familiarization meeting held at the club’s secretariat, Musa declared his intention to rebuild Kano Pillars into a competitive force, not just in Nigeria but across Africa.
“This is our club, and one of the most successful in Nigeria, but the story in recent years hasn’t been great,” Musa said. “With your support, I will do everything possible to reposition Kano Pillars.”
The news of Musa continuing in a dual role has sparked excitement among fans, especially those in Kano who remember his first stint with the Sai Masu Gida, during which he became a fan favourite and launched his path to stardom.
Musa’s return as both a player and administrator is part of broader reforms supported by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at professionalising the club’s structure and improving youth development.
