The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) inducted 29 newly qualified medical doctors at Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) on Monday, marking the institution’s 20th induction ceremony.
This was disclosed by the Acting Dean, School of Clinical Medicine, Igbinedion University Okada, Dr. (Mrs.) Imesidayo Eboreime-Oikeh, who said the 29 inductees—comprising 10 males and 19 females—were graduating as newly qualified medical doctors at the 20th Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony for the 2024/2025 session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, emphasised the importance of the event, stating that it provided the institution with the opportunity to welcome a new generation of well-trained physicians and nation-builders into the medical profession.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Adeghe, the Vice-Chancellor urged the inductees to uphold the Hippocratic Oath, reminding them of its significance and the promises it entails.
“You are not just becoming practising doctors. You are becoming custodians of Nigeria’s future. The road ahead is demanding, but you are equipped. You are Igbinedion-trained. You are resilient. You are the strategic assets we have been waiting for. Go forth and build—build infrastructure, instigate the needed advancement in our health sector, and in doing so, help build a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
On his part, the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, charged the inductees on professionalism while delivering the induction lecture themed “A Doctor and a Fulfilling Life.”
The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Prof. Fatima Kyari, represented by Prof. John Ohaju-Obodo, performed the induction.
