The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has urged Nigerians to familiarize themselves with their rights as electricity consumers and to ensure that service providers meet their obligations.

During a three-day Customer Complaints Resolution Town Hall Meeting in Osogbo, NERC’s Commissioner for Customer Affairs, Aisha Mahmoud, emphasized the importance of customers knowing their rights. She noted that many Nigerians remain unaware of these rights, despite the information being available on the Commission’s website.

Mahmoud highlighted that the meeting was designed to address customer complaints and provide an avenue for the Commission to receive direct feedback. “We are here to listen to customers and resolve their complaints on the spot,” she stated.

She also stressed that consumers should demand the services they pay for, as electricity payments cover both the cost of power and the service quality. NERC has been organizing similar town hall meetings across the country to raise awareness and ensure customer rights are upheld.
