    Man Arraigned in Lagos for Alleged Television Theft

    On Tuesday, the police in Lagos State brought 20-year-old Gilbert Israel before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, accusing him of stealing a Sanyo television valued at N20,000.

    The defendant, who resides at no fixed address, is facing charges of felony and stealing in the two-count charge presented by Police Prosecutor ASP Ikem Uko. The alleged incident took place on January 2, at No 10, Olufunmi Bankole Street, Ibiye, Badagry area of Lagos.

    According to Uko, Israel is accused of breaking into the residence of one Sunday Bankole with the intent to commit a felony. The stolen item was identified as a 10-inch Sanyo television with a value of N20,000.

    The charges against the defendant contravene Sections 308 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).

    Chief Magistrate T. A Popoola granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties required to provide a like sum. The magistrate specified that the sureties must be responsible citizens residing in Lagos State, gainfully employed in a reputable company or a government establishment. The case has been adjourned until January 30 for mention.
