Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, has expressed profound gratitude to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the President of Remo Stars, Hon. Kunle Soname, for the massive support being given to Remo Stars FC and Kwara United as the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, continues to transform into a true hub of African football.
Remo Stars, who secured an emphatic 4–0 first-leg victory over Comorian side US Zilimadjou in the CAF Champions League preliminary round, will travel away for the return leg fixture in late September with a strong advantage.
At the same time, Kwara United will host Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in Abeokuta for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie on Sunday, September 28, 2025, after narrowly losing 4–3 in the first leg in Accra.
Majekodunmi described both encounters as “national assignments,” stressing that the two clubs are carrying the hopes of millions of Nigerians.
He called on football fans and stakeholders across Ogun State and the country to come out in their numbers to support the teams, noting that Remo Stars and Kwara United represent more than their clubs — they embody the pride of the nation.
He commended Governor Abiodun for his administration’s investment in upgrading the MKO Abiola International Stadium to meet CAF standards, as well as Hon. Soname for his steadfast contributions, which he said have ensured smooth logistics and proper mobilisation.
“Remo Stars and Kwara United belong to all of us, whether from Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, or Egba,” Majekodunmi said. “This is our moment. Let’s fill the stadium, cheer them to victory, and ensure both clubs qualify for the next stage of their continental campaigns.”
With logistics and security arrangements already in place, Abeokuta is set for back-to-back continental showdowns as Remo Stars aim to consolidate their commanding lead, while Kwara United fight to overturn a narrow deficit in front of home fans
