Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan has strongly condemned the recent killing of innocent civilians in Yobe State by suspected insurgents. In a statement released on Tuesday, September 3, in Abuja, Lawan called on security agencies to urgently track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Expressing his condolences, Lawan addressed the tragic incident that took place in Mafa village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area, on Sunday, September 1, 2024. The attack, which occurred around 4 p.m., resulted in the deaths of several civilians and significant destruction of properties.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence,” Lawan said. “I also condole with His Excellency, Yobe State Governor Rt. Hon. Mai Mala Buni (CON), the Yobe State Government, and the entire people of Yobe State during this difficult time.”

Lawan urged interventionist agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the North East Development Commission (NEDC), to quickly provide physical, medical, and psychological support to the victims. He emphasized the need for immediate assistance to the injured and displaced residents of the affected community.

“I call on NEMA and NEDC to dispatch medical personnel and relief materials to the affected area to support those who have been injured and displaced by this horrific attack,” Lawan added.

He further encouraged the people of Tarmuwa Local Government Area to remain calm and vigilant, urging them to report any suspicious activity to security agencies for a prompt response.

Lawan’s condemnation reflects the broader concern for security in the region and the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency in Nigeria.
