Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesperson of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP-PCC), has addressed rumors regarding a possible merger involving the Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP).

Tanko clarified that while discussions about a potential alliance were indeed ongoing prior to the election, the idea of a merger, in which the parties would be officially recognized as one entity by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is not currently feasible.

Tanko emphasized that the focus is on a working alliance based on shared principles and ideologies among parties that believe in the values of the Labour Party.

He explained that a merger would involve submitting documents to INEC, leading to the recognition of a new political entity, which is not the current direction of discussion. Instead, the parties are exploring the possibility of a working alliance to unite progressive-minded forces and individuals who prioritize the welfare of the Nigerian people.

Tanko emphasized that discussions are ongoing and that various stakeholders, including political parties and civil society groups, are considering ways to collectively work towards the betterment of Nigeria’s population.

He noted that there is no final decision on the matter, but discussions are taking place to explore the potential of collaboration. This approach seeks to align forces that believe in Nigeria’s progress and the upliftment of its citizens from poverty.

It’s worth recalling that Atiku and Obi are challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory in court.
