Kaduna Tribunal Controversy Sparks Call for Social Media Regulation – Onanuga

Amid the recent drama surrounding the Kaduna governorship verdict delivered by the Election Tribunal, there is a growing clamor for urgent regulation of social media platforms. Numerous unfounded reports flooded social media channels today, with one particularly contentious headline claiming, “Kaduna governorship election declared inconclusive.” Remarkably, this headline was being widely shared even as the tribunal was still in the process of delivering its judgment.

The increasing prevalence of misinformation and disinformation on social media platforms is a cause for concern, and many are raising their voices in favor of implementing controls in this digital space. Critics argue that if left unchecked, the unchecked spread of false information could one day become a catalyst for civil unrest in our nation.
