The Muslim Rights Concern, or MURIC, is an Islamic human rights organization that has cautioned federal officials against threatening Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
MURIC’s founder and executive director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, made the warning public in a statement on Wednesday.
He claimed that harassing the former governor will damage the reputation of President Bola Tinubu’s current administration.
The threat comes amid a recent altercation between El-Rufai and certain Aso Rock cabals after the former criticized Tinubu’s administration.
Remember how El-Rufai had sounded the alarm, claiming that he was going to be jailed for allegedly having a romantic relationship with several opposition leaders in the run-up to the general elections?
In response to the incident, MURIC stated: “Given the significant role that former Governor El-Rufai played in the ruling party’s victory in the general elections of 2023 and the fact that he helped President Bola Tinubu emerge as the undeniable occupant of Aso Rock today despite all odds, we would like to advise the federal government against intimidating the former governor if the rumor is true.”
By doing this, the Tinubu administration’s reputation as a democratic one will be damaged, and it will be seen as one that is prepared to suppress opposition.
