Man sentenced to three years in prison for impersonating FBI agent, says EFCC. Solomon Eke, operating as Kelvin James on Facebook, posed as FBI agent John Smith. Based on an intelligence report, the EFCC has announced the arrest of Solomon Eke and 24 other suspected internet fraudsters at Kurudu Phase 5, Abuja. The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission conducted the operation, acting on information regarding Eke’s alleged involvement in internet fraud activities.After investigations, it was discovered that Solomon Eke, also known as Kelvin James, operated a Facebook account where he impersonated an agent of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation named John Smith. The EFCC stated that Eke and others, who are currently at large, engaged in fraudulent activities on social media, specifically using Facebook to deceive unsuspecting victims in love scams.
The charges against Eke included falsely presenting himself as Kelvin James, a white man and Trading Manager, with the intention to deceive. The EFCC cited the offence under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017, and Eke pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, he was sentenced to three years imprisonment or a fine of N150,000, and he was also required to forfeit his iPhone 14 Pro Max phone to the Federal Government.
