    In preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a list of 85 referees for a preparatory course

    Notably, there are no Nigerian referees included in this roster, as disclosed by CAF on Tuesday.

    The list comprises various categories of officials, encompassing center referees, assistant referees, video assistant referees (VAR), technical instructors, physical trainers, VAR technicians, and IT support staff.

    Egypt and Algeria lead the tally with three referees each on the list. Four VAR referees were selected, hailing from Mauritius, South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt. Additionally, seven technical instructors and physical trainers were chosen from Zimbabwe, Burundi, Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Morocco, and Djibouti.

    It’s worth noting that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are among the 24 nations set to compete for the title in the 2023 AFCON finals. The tournament will be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire and is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
