Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has inaugurated the Special Intervention Squad in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to address the rise in kidnapping and banditry, particularly in border towns. The squad will focus on patrolling and securing communities along the FCT borders, intervening in and mitigating violent attacks. The deployment of this squad is part of the larger plan to combat violent crime, with 40,000 operatives undergoing training. The Special Intervention Squad will not operate like the disbanded Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, emphasizing its role in interventions without human rights abuses.
