If I wanted a third term, I would’ve got it- OBJ

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has restated that he never at any time wanted a third term in office.

He, however, said if he had wanted third term, he could have got it in office.

Obasanjo said he was audacious enough to get his desire.

He said: “I never asked for a third term. If I wanted a third term, I would have got it. I am audacious enough to know how to get it.”

The former president spoke on Thursday at a virtual engagement organised by Africa Leadership Group.

The third term project was an attempt by Obasanjo and his associates to amend the constitution to procure a third term in office.

The controversial project was turned down at the National Assembly despite a lot of desperate lobby the former President’s team.

Obasanjo was president between 1999 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo has said he would not join the campaign train of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi.

He said his best had been done through a letter endorsing Obi for the presidential election.

“I am not in campaign train. I’ve used benefit of my experience and I’ve put plainly.

“I do not belong to any political party. I will not join any campaign train. I’ve said what is best for the country,” he said.

On the choice of next president, Obasanjo said: “Nigeria is where we are because of leadership.

“We must decisively look for men and women who have the character, attributes, skill and attitude that we need for leadership, that will deliver in this country.”
